This pub was also known as the Crown Tap and closed in the 1960s. It was really part of the Crown Hotel but had a separate address and separate licence. At New Street in 1901. Like many ‘Shades’ and ‘Taps’ associated with inns, it originally existed to serve the servants and coachmen of guests staying at the adjoining hotel. It now serves as an out-building attached to the hotel. **
