Essex Stamndard 18 August 1854
Deaths :
August 8th, after four months severe suffering, aged 35, Samuel Stammers, late of the Brown Bear Inn, Richmond, Surrey, and eldest surviving son of the late Mr Edward Stammers, of High street, Aldgate, City, Victualler.

My ancestor Charles Marshall, was born Merton, Surrey about 1816; to John Lewin Marshall (Animal Portrait Artist) and Mary. He was one of seven children. He died Dec Quarter in1879 at Richmond, Surrey. ***

[1841 Census shows him still at the family home in Finsbury as a Brick Maker. The 1851 Census shows him living at his brother John's address at 53 Plaistow Grove, West Ham, London together with his sisters Mary A and Elizabeth (blind). His Marriage Certificate of the 12th November 1851 shows him as a Cow Keeper. By 1861 the Census shows him living at 1 Kew Road, Richmond, Surrey (Brown Bear Public House). ***]

Sons Birth Cert 26.Sep 1861 state - "Victualler of 1 Kew Road Richmond Surrey (Brown Bear Public House)"; which confirms what I was told when a child. The 1871 Census shows him still a publican at the Brown Bear.

The 1881 Census shows his wife Georgiana (Shelton) as a Widow, living in Twickenham with son Charles Lewin and her sister. There are a number of artists in the family, with John Fitz Marshall being possibly the most famous.
