WYVERSTONE is a parish and pretty village, in Hartismere hundred,
union, and rural deanery, Stow county court district, archdeaconry of Suffolk,
and diocese of Norwich, West Suffolk, 2 miles west from Finningham station, 88
from London, 7 north from Stowmarket, and 5 � south from Botesdale. The church
of St. George is a very ancient stone building, with nave, chancel, and tower
and 3 bells. The register dates from 1500. The living is a rectory, annual value
�273, with residence, in the patronage of K. Loft Moseley, Esq., and held by the
Rev Thomas Clarkson, M.A., of St. John's College, Cambridge. The soil belongs to
H. J. Oakes, Esq., J. S. Ord, Esq., G. Tomline, Esq., M.P., Lady Cullum, Rev.
Francis Upjohn, and some small owners. K. Loft Moseley, Esq., is lord of the
manor. The soil is clay and marly, and produces wheat, barley, beans, and oats.
The population in 1861 was 302, and the area is 1,522 acres.
