RUSHMERE (near Ipswich) is a neat village and parish, in Woodbridge union, Carlford hundred and rural
deanery, Ipswich borough and county court district, archdeaconry of Suffolk, and diocese of Norwich, East Suffolk, 3 miles north-cast from Ipswich station, and 6 south-west from Woodbridge. The church of St. Andrew was rebuilt in 1861, at a cost of £1,500. The register dates from 1582. The living is a vicarage, value £180, with residence, in the gift of the Marquis of Bristol, and held by the Rev. William Wigston, M.A., of St. John's College, Cambridge. The Marquis of Bristol is lord of the manor, and the principal proprietor of the land. The population in 1861 was 678, and the area is 2,142 acres.
