The first picture is from 1908 with Thomas Chenery, Elizabeth Chenery and three of their five children standing outside. The second is from 1950. The third is both the old and new pubs in 1967 just after the new pub had been completed and the old pub was still operational.

My Great Grand parents, Thomas Henry and Elizabeth Chenery, were the licencees of the George IV from approximately 1908 until it was closed in 1968. Prior to that they were at the Manor Arms in Charlton from July 1905 to 1908. Thomas Henry died in 1932 and Elizabeth took over from him and held the licence until it closed.
The original pub was pulled down in the redevelopment of Woolwich and a new George IV was built on the opposite corner. *
Kentish Independent 01 January 1909 :
John Henry Chenery of the George the Fourth public house, Kingsman street, Woolwich, was summoned to the same court the same day for selling intoxicants to a drunken person and for permitting drunkenness.
Summonss adjourned for eight days.
