Union, 23 Glasshouse Street, St James, Westminster W1

Westminster St James index

Glasshouse Street is formerly Marylebone Street, Piccadilly (comparing 1851 & 1856 street directories proves this).  This is therefore previously the Union, 25 Marylebone Street, which intersects with Air Street, Regent Street. The former address is also sometimes listed as 26 Marylebone Street, and should not be confused with the Crown, also listed at 25 Marylebone Street in the 1839/1841 directories. *

The May, 1853 birth of daughter of Henry Testar and Susannah Hemery Testar was recorded at St James Westminster. Dad's occupation is listed as "victualler". The family address was then Union Tavern, 25 Air Street, Regent Street. This seems consistent with some old family papers that suggest the Hemerys, at some point, ran at least two pubs. ***
