The earliest reference to this pub would seem to be a mention in court proceedings at the Old Bailey for 28th. July 1744.
In 1839 listed as 19 Ratcliff Highway, before renaming to St George Street. This pub was rebuilt in the mid-twentieth century and by 1983 had been renamed the Caxton. The modern form of the address is 50 The Highway, E1 by 1940. ***
