My Grandfather was Samuel Webb who came over from the Isle of Man after the Great War with his wife May Webb and three sons, Sam, Eric and Denis.
The pub was sold by him in 1947. Sometime after this it was demolished and rebuilt. It now no longer exists. In the war when it was propped up with flying shores, I was told this was because the excavation for the
tube before the Second World War had caused subsidence. ***

My cousin, Samuel Webb, added some detail about both of our father's occupancy of the Bluecoat Boy pub when young, whilst their father - also Samuel Webb - was the owner/ licensee from 1923 (ish) to 1947. Both our fathers worked there for the family before the Second World War. ***
The street of Norton Folgate has undergone some changes of name and extent over time, but one thing I do remember my father talking about is that they had different licensing hours to those of The Primrose across the road on the corner of Primrose Street.
This was because The Primrose was in London E1, but The Bluecoat Boy, even though at 5 Norton Folgate, was across the boundary in the City, EC2. The Primrose could therefore call time 30 minutes after the Bluecoat Boy.
So, each night when time was called in the family's pub, our Bluecoat clients had a tendency to decant across to the Primrose to continue to sup!
For which reason our lot hated the Primrose! ***
