The Perou family, Victuallers in London started with Disney Perou (formerly a Huguenot weaver) taking over his father in law, Richard Pratt's pub when the latter died after falling out of a train - the Crown & Anchor, at 71 Cheshire Street, Bethnal Green E2.
He then moved on to the Britannia, at 29 Cambridge Heath road, Bethnal Green E1 ; (also later his daughters Elizabeth, Mary Ann and Sophia),and the Rising Sun at 87 Sidney Street, Commercial Road, Mile End E1 until he died in the Princess Alice steamer disaster on the Thames at Galleons Reach.
His children then followed in the pub trade.
His son Richard Perry Perou was at the Princess Mary at 67 Kerbey Street, Poplar E14, then theHonest Lawyer, at 66 Oxford street, Mile End E1(having taken it over from his brother William, with sisters Margaret and Susie in the 1881 Census)and then living with his son Disney at the Lion & Lamb at 15 Margaret street, Clerkenwell WC1
William Perou, son of Disney, is born about 1861 in Mile End, London
He is at the Lucas Arms, 348 Commercial road, Mile end from at least 1891. By the 1901 census he is licensee at the Red Lion, 17 Greenwich road until about 1906.
Bertie William Richard Perou, son of Wiliam Perou, is born about 1882.
On the August 30th 1903, Bertie William Richard Perou, aged 21 marries Madge Dawson, also 21 at St Mary Magdalene, Peckham. He is a Licensed victualler resident at the Swiss Tavern, Lausanne road, as is his father Wiliam Perou. She is resident at the Red Lion, Freemont road, and her father William Robert Dawson is a Licensed victualler deceased
Bertie William Richard Perou is licensee of the Prospect of Whitby until his death in 1923 from about 1913.
Disney Perry Perou is at the Lion and Lamb, 14 & 15 Margaret street WC in 1912. He is the son of Richard Perou who was licensee here in the 1901 census.
Richard Perou was licensee of the Honest Lawyer from about 1883 until late 1890's
Frederick Perou is at the Builders Arms, 1 Kensington court place W1 in 1912.
In 1901, Frederick Perou is a barman at the Old Parrs Head, 120 Blythe road, Hammermsith; his uncle David Hogben, is the Public House Manager.
Albert marries Esther Ellen Lines in 1909 at Leytonstone. His 1916 record of service shows him as 32 years old, a wine and spirit merchant at 43 Trafford road, Thornton Heath
There is also an Albert Perou at the Swan, 84 Old Kent road in about 1910-1915
By 1939, Albert Perou is a Licensed Victualler at 71-73 Loughborough road
Disney Perry Perou , my grandfather, was at The Dartmouth Castle, Hammersmith, and the The Queen Teddington. *
Richard Perry Perou, my father, was at The Globe, Chelsea; the The Dartmouth Castle, the The Queen; and at The White Hart, Greenford Road. *
This ended when my father, a Watney tenant for over forty years, was given notice to get out by Grand Metropolitan.
