In the 1682 Morgans map, this building is listed as the Falcon Inne, denoted by 310, and indexed as the Falcon Inn. It is listed consistently in Post Office directories as the Castle and Falcon Hotel (with a separate entry as the Castle and Falcon Tap in 1848 and 1851). * The Castle and Falcon Inn was on the east side of Aldersgate Street at No. 5, and was opposite the present Postman's Park and St Botolph's Church Aldersgate Street. Coaches departed almost daily from the Inn for the Midlands and the North of England. ***

Aldersgate Street in 1682 Morgans map. On East side, from the bottom, are 310 Falcon Inne, 309 Cooks Hall, 308 Stone Court, 305 Ball alley, 304 Deputys Court, 303 Maidenhead Court, 302 Angel alley, 301 Horn alley. On the west side includes the 298 Swan Inne.

1756/Aldersgate street, very spacious and long, and although the Buildings are old, and not uniform, yet many of them are very good, and well inhabited. This Street runs Northward unto the End of Barbican on the East Side, and Long lane on the West, where Goswel street begins. In this Street are a great many Alleys and Courts ; and for the describing them, we shall begin at Aldersgate. Falcon and Castle lnn, very large, and of a considerable Resort. In the Yard are several good houses for private Families: And out of this Yard, is a Passage into Jewin street, and another into Noble street. Harrow court, small and indifferent.

Mrs Dupont (1739-1813) was my 5 x great-grandmother, born Mary Howard. Her second husband was Matthias Peter Dupont (1746-1816) (not Matthew). There was just one child, a daughter from Mary’s first marriage: Harriot Fryer (1762-1797). Harriot’s husband, George King (1761-1829), was in partnership with Matthias Peter Dupont as wine and brandy merchants in Falcon Street. The London Gazette in 1802 details the dissolution of their partnership on 3rd Sep 1802. *+
George and Harriot’s first son was named Matthias Dupont King and was my 3 x great-grandfather.
In 1783, the Eclectic Society was formed and they commenced holding their meetings in the Castle and Falcon, a coaching inn owned by Matthew Dupont. A Society comment made at that time said �Mr & Mrs Dupont, who keep the Castle & Falcon in Aldersgate Street "are very serious people and their house is as regular as a private family. They are likewise my friends.". ***

By invitation from Lady Huntingdon ( Spa Fields Chapel ) and at her expence a great number of ministers and students in her Ladyship's Connection together with the committees, or deputations from the committees, of several congregations both in town and country dined together at Mr Dupont's in Aldersgate Street, the whole number being about 72 or 73. ***
Matthew Dupont, (1746-1816) the proprietor of the Castle & Falcon, was on the committee of Lady Huntingdon's Spa Fields Chapel. ***

Notice is hereby given that the Partnership lately subsisting between Matthias Peter Dupont and George King, of Falcon street, Aldersgate street, in the Trade or Business of Wine and Brandy Merchants, was dissolved by mutual consent on the 5th April last. The Business will in future be carried on by the said Georke King on hisown separate account, who will receive and discharge all Debts relating to the said Partnership : As witness our Hands this 3rd day of September 1802.

The Gentleman's Magazine records the death of the "highly respected Mr M Dupont" (full name Mathias Peter Dupont) as having died on 2nd November 1816 at Canonbury Lane, Islington.
