As an organist at St Margaret's, Fletton, I am researching a grave containing two of the innkeepers at the White Hart, Fletton: Charles Ibbott and Daniel Porter. For some years now, this pub has been the premises of a highly regarded local family firm of undertakers, Smiths Funeral Directors.
The building is diagonally across the road from the gate to our church.

Stamford Mercury 08 May 1818 :
To be sold by Auction.
Lot 1. All that Messuage or Tenement, called the White Hart Public House, in Fletton, with the Brewhouse, and other outbuildings, Yard, Garden, and Homestead, by estimation Two Acres, in the occupation of Elizabeth Smart; and a Messuage in front of the homestead, in the occupation of Elizabeth Smith, widow.
I found that a Mrs Smart ran the pub until her death in 1838 (death notice, Stamford Mercury, 5 October 1838). She died aged sixty-nine, so she may have been there for some time.
Mrs Smart's successors were :
1838 Charles Ibbott already owned some land around the White Hart, and now bought the pub. (Stamford Mercury, 25 May 1838, contains notice of the auction. He is there in the 1841 census, but died in 1847. He was buried at St Margaret's, Fletton.
Cambridge Independent Press 28 September 1850 :
Marriage at Sculcoates Church, Hull, on Monday last, Mr Daniel Porter, farmer, of Farcet, to Mrs Ann Ibbott, late of the White Hart, Fletton, Hunts.
1851 census and 1854 directory Edward Preston (1852 directory wrongly lists Charles Ibbott). Not clear how long he stayed, but in 1861 I found him running the Roe Buck Inn, Stamford.
1861, 1871, 1881 censuses Daniel Porter, who married Ann, the widow of Charles Ibbott. (Marriage, reported in Stamford Mercury, 27 September 1850, on above website.) Ann died in 1878 and Daniel in 1888, and they were both buried in the same grave as Charles Ibbott and Sarah Ibbott (almost certainly Charles's mother).
1863 License for the White Hart, Fletton, transferred to Edward Shrive, Cambridge Independent Press, 7 November. He is still shown living at Fletton in 1869 directory for Northants, Hunts, Beds, etc. (clearly out of date), and prior to taking over as publican at White Hart, Long Causeway, Peterborough. There is a puzzle here – if Shrive held the licence, why was Daniel Porter in residence as the innkeeper at Fletton in the above three censuses?

At the White Hart Inn, Old Fletton, in the county of Huntingdon, on Wednesday the 28th day of April, 1869, at 5 or 6 o'clock in the Evening punctually, subject to such conditions as will then and there be produced.
Lot 1 All that reversion or remainder expectant on the decease of Ann the wife of Daniel Porter of and in a valuable Free Public House, known by the name of the White Hart Inn, at Fletton aforesaid, with the Brew house, Granary, Stables, Barn, large Stack and Crew yards, enclosed Garden and large paddock, containing Two acres or thereabouts of very valuable Pasture land, behind the said messuage or Inn, in the occupation of Edward Shrive.
Lot 2, And also of and in all those Four newly erected Brick and Slated Cottages, situate near to the said Inn, with gardens behind same, in the several tenures or occupations of Daniel Porter, Henry Hill and others.

The license of the White Hart Inn at Old Fletton, was transferred from Daniel Porter, the late owner, to Mr J T Spencer of Peterborough.

Peterborough Standard 03 January 1936 :
Death of Miss Florence M Dunkley, at 56, the daughter of Mrs and the late T R Dunkley, who kept the White Hart, Fletton for over 30 years.

Arthur Jones, of the White Hart, Old Fletton, was granted an extension of permitted hours from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m., on January 24th, for a Fire Brigade annual dinner and social.
