Nags Head, 42 High Street, Southampton, Hampshire

Southampton pub history index

The original building dated back to 1740s when a one George Burcy who had been landlord of the nearby Red Lion pub became the first landlord of this pub, it was destroyed during a WW2 air raid, the pub then operated out of a temporary shack until the present building opened in November 1957 with an A Watson as landlord. The pub was owned by the Coopers Brewery prior to WW2 but was owned by Watneys Brewery when it reopened in 1957, 1991 saw its name changed to Fiddlers after it reopened following a refurbishment, however with the decline of the High Street pub trade it closed in the mid 2000s and was converted into the Zen Japanese Restaurant. *
