My Grandparents Fritz and Elizabeth Stoveld took over running the Junction in 1908 with a two year old child Mabel (my mother) before that they lived at the Steam Packet Inn on Poole Quay. Which had been run by the Furber family from Morden, my grandmother was 19 years of age when this took place; she was the first single woman to be granted a licence in England
There is very little known of the Steam Packet, the steps leading to it are still there I think it is now owned by Piplers. they moved to the the Junction Hotel and ran it for many years, I was born there in 1930, we left in 1937 as trade was going down because the new Upton Hotel took over the patrons, it was eventually demolished and a new hotel was built which also didn't last and was demolished to build a new housing estate -  Turlin Moor.
The Junction was named after the Junction Railway Station, the waiters etc would stay overnight at the hotel.  In those days,  women were not allowed to use the public bar so they had a separate room to do there socializing and drinking their wine. *
