The Dog and Duck at Emmbrook started life as a beer house. Absolom Deane received the first license in 1851 when he was 80 years old (and described in the census as a gardener). Brakspears Brewery bought it in 1857 and by 1901 it was an attractive public house in a rural setting. In 2011, the sign now shows a black dog, thought to be an Irish water spaniel, gazing up at a duck in flight. *
